This iconic chair poster promotes a fictional gallery exhibition for the Butterfly Stool, a furniture piece designed by Japanese industrial designer Sori Yanagi in 1956. The chair’s design, characterized by its simple and sleek curved plywood construction, exemplifies the designer’s commitment to elegance and simplicity. During the conceptualization process, I opted for a minimalist and straightforward design approach to emphasize the chair’s inherent elegance. The stool’s minimalistic design was complemented by a vertical title and a body copy positioned to the right of the chair’s silhouette, creating a balanced composition. The choice of black and white as the primary color scheme was driven by the desire to create a high contrast that would accentuate the chair’s distinctive features, rendering it visually striking yet uncluttered. A red dot was strategically placed to
balance the visual weight of the stool’s legs and serve as a subtle nod to the Japanese flag, honoring the designer’s nationality.
