These are a series of book jackets I created for Patricia Highsmith's classic novels, 'Strangers on a Train,' 'Carol,' and 'The Talented Mr. Ripley.' Although the stories explore vastly different themes and plots, a unifying visual language was sought to bind them together.
First, for "Strangers on a Train," I focused on a gun motif. This represents the pivotal moment in the novel where the characters' lives intersect and spiral into a thrilling and suspenseful narrative. Then, for "The Talented Mr. Ripley," I opted for a design featuring a boat and a paddle, with subtle hints of blood. Finally, for "Carol," I decided to create a hand-drawn heart motif. This symbolizes the intense and passionate relationship between the characters in the novel, capturing the emotional depth and connection that defines their story.
