These are a series of book jackets I designed for Patricia Highsmith’s classic novels: “Strangers on a Train,” “Carol,” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley.” Despite the diverse themes and plots explored in these novels, a cohesive visual language was sought to establish a connection among them.
For “Strangers on a Train,” a gun motif was employed to represent the pivotal moment in the novel where the characters’ lives intersect and unfold into a gripping and suspenseful narrative. For “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” a design featuring a boat and a paddle, with subtle hints of blood, was chosen. Finally, for “Carol,” a hand-drawn heart motif was created to symbolize the intense and passionate relationship between the characters, capturing the emotional depth and connection that permeates their story.
